Werder Bremen Appoints Daniel Thioune as New Head CoachWerder Bremen Appoints Daniel Thioune as New Head Coach

Bild reports that Werder Bremen has identified Daniel Thioune as the successor to Horst Steffen, who was dismissed over the weekend.

Steffen’s departure came as Bremen found themselves precariously positioned just above the relegation zone in 15th place, with only a one-point cushion separating them from the bottom three. The team has also experienced a winless streak since early November.

Thioune, who has prior experience coaching Hamburg and most recently led Fortuna Düsseldorf, is set to take over as the new head coach. He has been without a managerial role since his dismissal from Fortuna in October. Due to his ongoing contract, valid until 2028, Bremen will likely incur a modest transfer fee to secure his release from the 2.Bundesliga side.

In the aftermath of Steffen’s firing, Bremen explored various coaching options, with both Bo Henriksen and Bo Svensson declining the opportunity to take the helm at Weserstadion. Additionally, Martin Demichelis and Dieter Hecking were also considered during this transitional period.
