Mexx Meerdink is on his way back to AZ after an extended absence due to injury. Despite the challenges, he continues to aspire to a bright future in professional football, with dreams of eventually competing at the highest levels in Europe.

In a recent conversation with Andy van der Meijde while driving, Meerdink was asked about his preferred destination for a potential transfer. “England, Italy, Spain? Or perhaps Germany?” van der Meijde inquired. Meerdink responded enthusiastically, “Italy and Spain definitely appeal to me, especially Italy. I would love to play for a club like Inter.” Van der Meijde, who played for Inter from 2003 to 2005, humorously advised him, “You have to be really good for that, just like I was!”

As he prepares for his return, Meerdink is also keeping an eye on the upcoming 2026 World Cup. “It’s certainly on my mind,” he admitted. “However, for now, my priority is to focus on getting fit and being a key player for AZ.” He acknowledges the stiff competition for places in the team, noting, “Brobbey is performing exceptionally well, and Memphis is always in contention for a spot.”

With these ambitions and the desire to make a mark on the pitch, Meerdink remains determined to overcome his current obstacles.
