Sevilla FC Faces Critical Matches Amidst StrugglesSevilla FC Faces Critical Matches Amidst Struggles

The recent performances of Sevilla FC have raised significant concerns. Each time the team manages to secure a victory, such as against Barcelona, Oviedo, or Athletic Club, it is followed by disappointing results. This troubling inconsistency has prevented Matías Almeyda’s side from breaking free from the relegation zone in the standings. Following a tough loss on Monday against Mallorca, a team with whom they have already lost the tiebreaker, Sevilla prepares for three critical matches before facing their long-standing rival.

In the early weeks of February, the Nervionenses will engage in two consecutive home matches followed by an away game against three teams they are competing with to avoid relegation. This challenging stretch begins this Saturday when they host Girona at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Girona, after a shaky start to the season, has managed to stabilize their performance and is currently one point above Sevilla in the standings.

After facing Míchel’s side, the white and reds will host Deportivo Alavés, a team they defeated 2-1 in the first round at Mendizorroza, but who earlier eliminated them from the Copa del Rey in mid-December. Coudet’s squad, now without the distraction of the cup after their defeat to Real Sociedad, also has 25 points and sits above Almeyda’s team, which must strengthen its home performances to avoid a precarious situation as the schedule intensifies.

Following these matches, Sevilla will travel to Getafe, a notoriously tough venue against an opponent also fighting for survival, which currently sits just one point behind them. The month will conclude with the second edition of the Seville derby at La Cartuja, a crucial encounter for Almeyda’s team ahead of a match against Rayo Vallecano, just before the international break in March, as they prepare to face tougher opponents in the upper tiers of the table.
