Real Sociedad Appeals Suspension of Brais M ndezReal Sociedad Appeals Suspension of Brais M ndez

Real Sociedad has lodged an appeal with the Appeals Committee regarding the decision made by the Disciplinary Committee to impose a two-match suspension on Brais Méndez. This suspension follows his red card received during the derby match last Sunday at San Mamés. As a result of this sanction, the player would be unable to participate in the upcoming match at Anoeta against Betis, as well as the fixture on the 14th against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Méndez was sent off last Sunday at San Mamés after a direct red card was issued for allegedly striking Aitor Paredes in the face. While the contact appeared minimal and was initiated following provocation from both Paredes and his teammate Jauregizar, referee Cuadra Fernández issued the red card after consulting an assistant who missed the play. In the match report, it was stated that Méndez was “guilty of violent conduct for hitting an opponent in the face with excessive force while the ball was not in play.” However, the club strongly disagrees with this assessment, and this sentiment has been echoed by several national radio commentators who analyzed the derby.
