Celtic Poised to Sign Alex Oxlade Chamberlain on Short Term DealCeltic Poised to Sign Alex Oxlade Chamberlain on Short Term Deal

Celtic FC is nearing the completion of a deal to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with a medical examination scheduled for Friday in Glasgow, as reported by Sky Sports. The Hoops have successfully navigated stiff competition from clubs such as Birmingham and Leeds to secure the former England international, who is currently a free agent according to The Mirror.

Despite the closure of the traditional January transfer window, Celtic is permitted to register Oxlade-Chamberlain immediately due to his status as a free agent for several months. The agreement is said to be a six-month contract that will extend through the conclusion of the current campaign. Although the deal was finalized just after the Europa League registration deadline on February 5, the player has expressed a strong desire to return to the pitch for the domestic title run-in. The club’s management views him as a crucial addition to the squad.

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has played a pivotal role in the pursuit of the 32-year-old midfielder, eagerly sharing his enthusiasm about Oxlade-Chamberlain’s forthcoming arrival. Earlier this week, O’Neill confirmed that he had engaged in personal discussions with the former Premier League star, highlighting the club’s vision and the potential impact he could have in the Premiership.

“I’ve spoken to him, but I’m sure he has plenty of options, perhaps closer to London,” O’Neill remarked to reporters. “I’m genuinely interested in making this happen. I am surprised that other clubs have not pursued him. He seemed very excited about what we discussed. He is already familiar with the club and is a good friend of Joe Hart, who has spoken to him—not on our behalf.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s transfer to Celtic comes on the heels of several months of uncertainty following his exit from Turkey. Since November, the 35-cap England international has been a regular fixture at Arsenal’s training ground. Initially training with the Under-21 squad to regain his fitness, he later joined Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad, sparking speculation of a possible short-term deal with the Gunners to cover for injuries.

Arteta has praised his former teammate’s character. “One of the best characters I’ve met in football,” Arteta noted earlier this season. “If we can provide him the space to regain his form and find a club, it will be a pleasure. The young players will benefit from his experience.” This training regimen has been crucial in preparing Oxlade-Chamberlain for his transition to Glasgow, even though he has not participated in competitive matches since leaving the Super Lig in August.

The inclusion of a player with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s distinguished background is viewed as a significant statement by the Celtic board. His trophy-laden career includes the Premier League, Champions League, and three FA Cups, bringing invaluable high-pressure experience to a squad currently in a fierce competition for the Premiership title. His versatility in midfield is expected to provide essential tactical flexibility as Celtic aims to close the gap on league leaders Hearts.

While his recent career has been marred by injuries, his performances for Besiktas indicate that he still possesses considerable ability at 32. For Celtic, the six-month deal represents a low-risk, high-reward opportunity that could be pivotal as they pursue domestic honors. By securing Oxlade-Chamberlain now, the club adds a world-class talent to their lineup at a crucial juncture in the season.
