Following his exclusion by Antonio Cordón during the presentation of Neal Maupay last Wednesday, the immediate future of Sergio Ramos remains uncertain. Today, Matías Almeyda addressed questions regarding the potential acquisition of the central defender, who is also involved in the club’s purchase process. The Argentine coach responded with caution.

“As a coach, a former player, and someone who appreciates and values a personality like Sergio’s, I cannot, should not, and do not want to comment on this matter. My focus must remain on the group I train, to whom I owe my respect and complete trust. I never speak about individual names. Sergio has been and continues to be a great figure in global football. There are other issues that have been explained, and I prefer not to get involved. Please, do not add another burden to my responsibilities,” stated Almeyda.

Cordón ruled out the possibility of signing any free players due to purely financial reasons. “We have nothing left in the budget. I won’t disclose the exact amount, but it is negligible compared to the current wages in football. This is a reality many clubs are facing. We must strengthen our resolve with our group, our fans, and our staff,” he commented.

The director of professional football at Sevilla did not evaluate the option of signing Sergio Ramos, stating, “It’s like going car shopping without having the money to make a purchase.” However, he noted that Almeyda was “close” to coaching Ramos at Monterrey for Apertura 2025, but ultimately chose the offer from the Sevilla club.
