Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the 32-year-old midfielder formerly of Arsenal and Liverpool, is set to join Celtic for the remainder of the season. According to manager Martin O’Neill, Oxlade-Chamberlain is focused on achieving peak fitness as rapidly as possible.

Having been a free agent since exiting Turkish club Besiktas in August, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s last match was a brief 11-minute appearance against Adana Demirspor on May 11, prior to suffering a knee injury.

O’Neill stated, “I spoke to him this morning. I believe he is eager to join us, and all indications suggest he will. I assume he has had several options to consider. There were even discussions about Arsenal, where he has been training, possibly signing him, especially with their current injury concerns. I’m thrilled that he seems set to join us.

“He is scheduled for a medical tomorrow, and if everything goes well, I hope that he will officially sign on. This player is coming in to compete for a position in the team and to enhance his fitness as quickly as possible. Having him with the squad for these upcoming months would be a significant asset.”
