Carrick Remains Focused Amid Early Success as Manchester United ManagerCarrick Remains Focused Amid Early Success as Manchester United Manager

Michael Carrick has asserted that his impressive start as Manchester United’s interim manager has not altered his chances of securing the role on a permanent basis.

Under Carrick’s leadership, the team has achieved victories against notable rivals such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Fulham in his first three matches in charge.

While this winning streak has prompted discussions regarding Carrick’s potential for a full-time appointment, he maintains that such considerations are still premature. “Nothing’s changed, no,” Carrick stated during a news conference ahead of Tottenham’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.

“To be honest, it’s not going to change what I do or how I feel about it. I think I’m fully aware of the role I’m undertaking here and the responsibility that comes with it. We aim for success; I want the club to thrive beyond this season, whether that is with me or someone else. At this stage, I cannot control that, and we will see what unfolds.”

Manchester United is currently committed to conducting a comprehensive recruitment process to find a successor to Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed last month. Initially, few fans regarded Carrick as the top candidate for the permanent managerial position following his interim appointment, but public perception has begun to shift.

Despite the growing support, Carrick believes the club should remain unswayed by the impacts of short-term results, no matter how positive. “The results of a short period do not alter the bigger picture,” he remarked. “If they have, then something is amiss. It is important that we do not react impulsively to either favorable outcomes or the challenges we face. Our focus should be on consistent progress.”

Acknowledging the unpredictable nature of football, he added, “You know that the landscape can change rapidly, so we must maintain our composure and focus on our objectives.”

Looking ahead, Carrick faces the opportunity to extend his winning streak to five matches with two games in four days against Tottenham and West Ham, before the squad enjoys a 12-day break due to their early exit from the FA Cup.

“I am thoroughly enjoying my role here,” Carrick expressed. “I feel at home in this environment, but I also fully understand the situation, so I am not allowing myself to become overly excited.”
