Ajax Aims for Redemption Against AZ After Heavy DefeatAjax Aims for Redemption Against AZ After Heavy Defeat

Ajax is determined to seek redemption following their heavy defeat in the KNVB Cup against AZ (6-0). This coming Sunday, both teams will face each other again in Alkmaar, but this time in a league match. Under the guidance of coach Fred Grim, the squad has been reinforced in several positions, although they are still lacking a new ‘number six.’ The question remains: which eleven players will Grim choose to take the field in pursuit of revenge against AZ?

The battle for second place in the Eredivisie is intensifying. Leaders PSV have extended their lead after a victory over Feyenoord, now leaving Ajax eighteen points behind. The Amsterdam side is fully focused on securing the second spot, competing with Feyenoord and NEC for direct access to the Champions League. To achieve this goal, Grim’s team must demonstrate more consistent performances. They have squandered valuable points by giving up a 2-0 lead in matches against both Go Ahead Eagles and Excelsior Rotterdam, resulting in draws (2-2).

Oleksandr Zinchenko, one of Ajax’s winter signings, has been cleared to play in the upcoming match on Sunday, though he has yet to train with the team. Consequently, it is likely that he will start on the bench. Vitezslav Jaros will begin in goal, facing competition from Maarten Paes. Right-back Anton Gaaei is expected to start, while Grim will probably choose Jorthy Mokio for the left side. The central defense is likely to be composed of Josip Sutalo and Youri Baas.

Another recent acquisition, Maher Carrizo, will initially play with Jong Ajax to adapt to the European football environment, as confirmed by director of football Marijn Beuker. Additionally, he is currently ineligible to play. Rayane Bounida is anticipated to start again on the right flank, while Gloukh, returning from illness, will likely begin on the bench.

Projected lineup for Ajax against AZ (4-3-3):
Jaros; Gaaei, Sutalo, Baas, Mokio; Regeer, Klaassen, Steur; Bounida, Dolberg, Godts.
