Concerns Regarding Ajax s Substitution StrategyConcerns Regarding Ajax s Substitution Strategy

omidbasir- Kees Kwakman has expressed significant concerns regarding the substitution strategy employed by Ajax coach Fred Grim. During the recent match against AZ, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Grim opted to introduce super-sub Wout Weghorst only in the dying moments of the game.

The substitution policy of Ajax’s coach has come under scrutiny from fans, who were particularly vocal during the match. They questioned Grim’s decision to bring Kian Fitz-Jim onto the field instead of Weghorst or a more creative player. In a surprising turn, Fitz-Jim managed to score a late equalizer, but Grim’s choices did not escape further criticism. Kwakman remarked on ESPN, “Weghorst was only on the pitch for two and a half minutes. I find that truly incomprehensible.”

Midfielder Davy Klaassen acknowledged that he did not expect the equalizer. He noted, “We are creating very little, but when Wout comes on, you know he can always provide something. You start playing long balls, and he only needs to connect once. Fortunately, he did just that. Fitz (Fitz-Jim) is a good header of the ball, as you all now know.”
