Corber n Faces Criticism After Valencia LossCorber n Faces Criticism After Valencia Loss

Carlos Corberán endured a challenging night at Mestalla. In addition to Valencia’s defeat against Real Madrid, he faced boos upon the announcement of his name over the loudspeakers, and worse, chants of “Corberán, resign!” at various points during the match.

The coach addressed the controversial substitution of Beltrán that provoked a strong reaction from the fans, stating, “I have the strength to continue,” while asserting that he sees a Valencia that is “alive” and possesses an “identity.”

Mestalla expressed dissatisfaction with his decisions. “I understand the disappointment directed at the coach. It’s true that in the last minutes we wanted two forwards, and Beltrán was fatigued. We sought other resources like Ramazani. Hugo is our top scorer, and we hoped that any cross into the area could secure us a point.”

Were the substitutions premeditated? “The team was performing well overall, only affected by the minutes Thierry could play. Without Foulquier, who will be out for a while, and Rubo Iranzo, we are left with just Titi. I believe the action leading to the goal should not have counted; the referee should have intervened earlier due to a foul by Carreras. Substituting Hugo Duro and Beltrán was tough, but bringing Sadiq on was necessary. I also have faith in players like Ramazani and Diego López. Unfortunately, we did not achieve our goal.”

Is resignation a consideration in light of the fans’ demands? “I have the strength to continue. I see the team is strong and possesses a competitive mentality. I have the responsibility to reverse this situation. I have the energy to change this dynamic. I’ve already addressed this; I am responsible for making adjustments. I know this is a difficult moment.”

Does he believe he can rectify the situation with a team lacking identity? “The team must now demand results. However, I disagree with the notion that the team lacks identity. The values instilled in me by my family are to fight every day. I see a team that is alive. I have no doubt that the team will find a way to achieve results.”

For a month, he has reiterated that the public desires actions over words; how sustainable is this situation? “The diagnosis must focus on improving everything possible so that in a week we can achieve a positive result. I believe the team will find solutions and results.”

Does he feel he is failing and that he may not be the right person for the job? “I have already answered that question.”
