Rayo Vallecano Optimistic About Upcoming Match After Pitch RepairsRayo Vallecano Optimistic About Upcoming Match After Pitch Repairs

Following the postponement of the match against Real Oviedo due to the poor condition of the pitch at the Estadio de Vallecas, Rayo Vallecano is optimistic about playing their derby against Atlético Madrid on Sunday, February 15. It is anticipated that improvements in the pitch conditions will occur over the coming days, aided by a decrease in rainfall in the capital throughout the week.

The poor state of the Estadio de Vallecas’ pitch was primarily due to the hasty replacement of the playing surface, which was completed only two days prior to the scheduled match against Oviedo. This, combined with the significant rainfall in Madrid, resulted in a soft surface that was unsuitable for football.

The club’s management made the decision to replace the pitch for two main reasons. Firstly, there had been numerous complaints from players and coaching staff regarding the playing conditions over the preceding weeks. Secondly, it became evident that the initially applied conservative treatment was ineffective in the most affected areas, particularly within the penalty boxes and along the sidelines.

Rayo Vallecano’s next home match is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, at 16:15. Club sources have assured EFE that they are confident the match will proceed as planned. “No one has informed us otherwise, and by that time, the playing surface will be in good condition. We have several days ahead to ensure it is optimal for play,” a club representative stated.

In fact, the training schedule set by coach Iñigo Pérez includes a final preparatory session at the stadium on Saturday, as is customary for home matches. The other training sessions from Tuesday to Friday will take place at the Ciudad Deportiva.
