omidbasir- Barcelona has the opportunity to secure a permanent transfer for Marcus Rashford by paying £26 million ($36 million). The Catalan club is in a position of control regarding his future, meaning that if they wish to keep Rashford, Manchester United’s hands are tied.

According to reports from The Sun, Manchester United is amenable to allowing the academy product to continue his career in Spanish football. This comes despite indications that interim manager Michael Carrick may prefer a proven Premier League player to return to Old Trafford. Carrick, who will manage the team until the end of the 2025-26 season, previously worked with Rashford for over three years under the management of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Following a string of four consecutive victories, Carrick is in contention for a permanent managerial role at United.

However, The Sun has stated that United has “no intention of recalling Rashford during the winter transfer window.” It was further noted that Carrick has not considered a potential return for Rashford and is not focusing on long-term plans, as his contract extends only until the end of the current season.

Currently, Rashford’s circumstances remain unchanged. Chief Executive Omar Berrada and Director of Football Jason Wilcox are still deliberating on the appointment of a permanent manager. Rashford has not played for United since December 2024, having spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. Under former manager Ruben Amorim, he lost his place in the squad and saw his jersey number taken by Brazil’s Matheus Cunha over the summer.

Before his loan to Barcelona was finalized, Rashford was training away from the first-team squad at United. He has expressed a desire to remain at Camp Nou, where he has made 426 appearances and scored 138 goals for the Red Devils. In an interview with ESPN, Rashford stated, “For sure. I’m enjoying this football club, and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player, it is an honor.”

The Sun also reports that United might seek a forward in the summer due to a lack of natural left-wing options following Rashford’s departure and the sale of Alejandro Garnacho. Jadon Sancho, currently on loan at Villa, will also become a free agent when his contract expires in June.

Rashford’s current contract with United runs until the summer of 2028, allowing the club to demand a significant fee for his services. If Barcelona does not meet this price, other clubs will likely be interested.

While Barcelona has not yet initiated discussions about triggering Rashford’s loan clause, the England international has been performing well, reaching double figures in both goals and assists this season. Hansi Flick has expressed a desire to retain Rashford beyond the current campaign, although uncertainties may arise if Joan Laporta loses the upcoming presidential elections, potentially leading to new leadership that could change recruitment strategies.
