omidbasir- Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino has recently undergone surgery to address a right foot injury that he sustained in January.

The Spanish international suffered a stress fracture during Arsenal’s league match against Manchester United on January 25, which ended in a 3-2 defeat for the Gunners. Arsenal anticipates that Merino will be sidelined for an extended period.

Following the procedure, Merino shared a photo from his hospital bed on Instagram, giving a thumbs up. He expressed his gratitude, stating, “Surgery done! Already closer to be back. Thank you so much to everyone for your messages and love. It really gives me even more energy to face the challenge. Vamos!”

According to sources in Spain, Merino is optimistic about returning to action by May, aiming for a spot in Spain’s squad for the upcoming World Cup this summer.

Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta, mentioned that predicting Merino’s return date is challenging. “It is a very rare injury, so we have to wait and see how it reacts in the days following surgery, and we will monitor it throughout the weeks post-surgery,” he noted.

This season, Merino has made 33 appearances for Arsenal, contributing four goals and three assists across 21 league matches for the Premier League leaders.
