Nico Schlotterbeck to Decide Future by Mid MarchNico Schlotterbeck to Decide Future by Mid March

omidbasir- Sport Bild reports that Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck is set to make a decision regarding his future by mid-March.

Discussions surrounding the 26-year-old’s future have persisted for several months, largely driven by his desire to see Dortmund positioned as serious contenders for titles before committing to an extension with the club.

The situation has been complicated by the backlash following Schlotterbeck’s post-match comments, where he expressed ambition in chasing current league leaders Bayern Munich.

By mid-March, Schlotterbeck is expected to announce whether he will remain at Signal Iduna Park or seek opportunities elsewhere.

Should the Waiblingen native decide to stay at Dortmund, he may have a release clause valued at €60 million, which could decrease to €50 million if the team fails to secure qualification for the Champions League.

Schlotterbeck currently faces two plausible options regarding his future. The first is to remain with Dortmund and extend his contract beyond 2027. The alternative is to transfer to Real Madrid, the only club to have shown significant interest in him. Given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of compatriots Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba, alongside the injury-prone Eder Militao, Madrid is keen on bolstering their defense.

However, any transfer decisions from Madrid will be contingent on the appointment of a new head coach for the upcoming season.
