omidbasir- LaLiga has officially announced the schedule for round 27, which includes a match for Espanyol on Monday, March 9, against Oviedo at 21:00 at the RCDE Stadium. This decision has led to an ironic response from the club on social media, highlighting their frustration. They posted, “To the surprise of absolutely no one, we’ll be playing on a Monday for matchday 27.”

This is not the first time this season that players and coaching staff have voiced their dissatisfaction with match timings. On January 21, Edu Expósito expressed strong criticism during a press conference regarding the scheduling of a match against Villarreal. He stated, “The match against Villarreal is very close to home, and there will be a massive turnout from our fans. We enjoy having them with us, even when playing away. A Monday match, especially so close, is challenging for us. We don’t like playing on Mondays in Villarreal; it has happened too often. The more we complain, the more they will continue to schedule us this way. So, we will keep quiet, continue working, and focus on winning the matches, regardless of the timing.”

Similarly, coach Manolo González echoed these sentiments two days later, on January 23. He remarked, “We are the team in LaLiga that plays 48% of our matches during the week. This situation is difficult to understand. I often find myself discussing these matters, but the data is objective and visible to everyone. I don’t comprehend how the schedules are organized. It feels as if Espanyol has no restrictions on when we can play.”

He further added, “The club needs to take a stand, similar to how they addressed recent arbitration issues. I often find myself in these discussions, and I’m reluctant to engage in this situation. However, it is frustrating, and I am glad that our organization has begun to voice concerns about playing on Mondays through our official account on X.”
