omidbasir- Sevilla is gearing up for an important match this Saturday against Deportivo Alavés, marking their second consecutive game at the Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. Following a dramatic draw against Girona, where they battled back from a poor first half, Almeyda’s squad understands the necessity of securing a victory against direct rivals for survival in the league. This match is crucial, especially with a challenging schedule looming ahead.

The coach welcomed back Azpilicueta and Nianzou after their recent training sessions, along with Gudelj, who has now served his suspension. Notably, Januzaj’s presence was a fresh development in Wednesday’s practice, although the team continues to grapple with injuries to Rubén Vargas, Castrín, Marcao, and Oso, the latter being the latest addition to the injury list. Deportivo Alavés is competing in the same league as Sevilla and has previously proven to be a challenging opponent, having eliminated them from this season’s Copa del Rey.

In their last game against Míchel’s side, Sevilla deployed their usual three-center-back formation. However, they struggled significantly in the first half, conceding a goal within the first two minutes and facing potential further setbacks before halftime. In response, Almeyda shifted to a 4-4-2 formation, bringing on Oso on the left wing and Ejuke on the right, which revitalized Sevilla’s attack and improved their chances at Gazzaniga’s goal.

If Almeyda decides to stick with this formation, Oso’s injury, which will sideline him for four to five weeks, complicates this strategy. Nonetheless, alternatives exist, such as Chidera Ejuke stepping into the left wing position. Although he hasn’t been a starter since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, his energy is undeniable each time he steps onto the pitch. The Nigerian has previously played on that wing, particularly under García Pimienta and also with Almeyda before Lukebakio’s departure. The right side could be supported by Carmona and Juanlu, with Januzaj likely available as an alternative.
