LONDON — Ruben Amorim has voiced concerns over Benjamin Sesko’s potential extended absence due to a knee injury sustained during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham. The £74 million ($97 million) center-forward, who came on as a substitute in the 58th minute, exited the match in the 88th minute after a challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven.

Although the Slovenia international managed to walk off the pitch after receiving treatment, Amorim expressed apprehension regarding the severity of the injury. “We have to check,” he told reporters. “He has something in his knee, so let’s see. We think he has a problem.”

When asked if Sesko might face a lengthy recovery, Amorim refrained from making optimistic predictions. “It’s the knee, and we never know,” he remarked. “I think that [Sesko’s form] is not the biggest concern now. I’m more worried about the injury because it’s in the knee, and I don’t know how serious it is.”

With United set to lose forwards Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo to the Africa Cup of Nations next month, alongside Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui, Amorim acknowledged that the club might need to augment the squad in January, particularly if Sesko is unavailable. “We have to check everything,” he said. “We need to evaluate what happened with Ben, but we are aware of the problems we’ll face with the AFCON players.”

He continued, “Managing that situation will be challenging, but we will see when the transfer window opens if we can improve the team and address any issues that arise. We have to seize the opportunity.”

Despite their ongoing pursuit of Champions League qualification following an unbeaten five-game stretch in the Premier League, United has drawn their last two away matches, securing late equalizers against both Spurs and Nottingham Forest.

Amorim acknowledged that United had the potential to secure a victory against Tottenham, asserting that a more aggressive approach was necessary. “We have many issues and are just beginning to improve, but we should perform better and embrace the atmosphere in the stadium,” he stated.

“The three points were within reach. We controlled the game well, but we need to do better. When we can’t win, we must at least avoid losing, which we managed again. We have much to grow as a team because today was our opportunity to win this match.

“We need to evaluate our performance; we weren’t pressing with the required intensity. We felt comfortable, but we must realize that with more bravery, we could have clinched the game.”
