Sullivan was well-known among top American soccer talents, having emerged as a standout from the Philadelphia Union’s academy. At just 14, he signed a professional contract in May 2024, debuting two months later and breaking Freddy Adu’s record by 13 days. Shortly thereafter, he was signed by Manchester City for a reported $2 million plus add-ons, making him the world’s most expensive 14-year-old player with a promising future ahead.

Despite his potential, 2025 did not unfold as expected for Sullivan. The Union had a remarkable season, clinching the Supporters’ Shield and dominating the regular season. However, a late slump meant Sullivan found it hard to secure playing time in a squad rich with dependable players in his position. He played only 48 minutes in the first two months, mainly in games where the Union had already established a comfortable lead, and his contributions were mostly limited to cup competitions.

His season culminated in a disappointing eight-minute appearance during the Eastern Conference semifinals against NYCFC, where he struggled to make an impact in a game that ended in a 1-0 loss. Ultimately, the Union’s playoff exit was not due to Sullivan’s limited MLS minutes, but rather injuries to key players and a lack of scoring options during crucial moments.

Heading into the offseason, the Union aimed to refine their roster. Having come close to an MLS Cup victory, they were only a couple of signings away from strengthening their squad. Unfortunately, key players including Kai Wagner, Jakob Glesnes, and Tai Baribo departed, and further setbacks occurred with Quinn Sullivan’s brother suffering a severe knee injury.

The Union’s carefully constructed squad from 2025, which effectively blended seasoned MLS talents with foreign imports, has undergone significant changes. Amidst this, Sullivan may find himself with newfound opportunities. With the team qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the Leagues Cup, alongside a packed MLS schedule disrupted by the World Cup, the Union will require fresh legs. Sullivan has been actively training with the first team and participating in preseason matches, openly expressing his determination.
