omidbasir- In an interview with Bild, following Bayern Munich’s 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer firmly stated that he will not be returning to the German national team.

There have been ongoing rumors regarding a potential comeback for Neuer, particularly in light of the injuries affecting current goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. These speculations were heightened by the recent return of Toni Kroos ahead of Euro 2024.

When asked whether his decision to retire after the Euros was definitive, Neuer replied simply, “Yes.”

The 39-year-old also commented on Oliver Baumann, who has stepped up as the current number one for Germany: “He is now number one and he is doing his job very well. He has consistently delivered strong performances, and of course, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him and wish him all the best.”

As long as ter Stegen continues to face inconsistencies, Baumann is expected to retain his position. Ter Stegen, currently on loan at Girona, has struggled to find playing time due to issues with Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick. Furthermore, following his transfer to Girona, he has encountered yet another injury, casting doubt on his ability to represent the national team come summer.

Other contenders for the goalkeeper position include Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu, Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen, and Stuttgart’s Alexander Nübel.
