omidbasir- Vitor Pereira is set to return to the Premier League, having signed a contract until the end of next season to become Nottingham Forest’s fourth manager this campaign. His appointment comes as the club seeks to avoid relegation.

The 57-year-old replaces Sean Dyche, who was dismissed early Thursday morning. While Nottingham Forest has yet to officially confirm Pereira’s hiring, he returns to English football after being let go by Wolves in November, following an 11-month tenure.

Currently, Forest occupies the 17th position in the Premier League, just three points above the relegation zone, having achieved only two victories in their last ten matches. Pereira’s appointment follows a series of managerial changes at the club, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, and Dyche all preceding him since September.

Dyche was relieved of his duties after a disappointing goalless draw with bottom-placed Wolves on Wednesday. Pereira, who led Wolves to 14 wins in 38 games and played a significant role in their survival last season, quickly emerged as the favored candidate for the role, having previously worked with Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, at Olympiacos.

During his brief stint at Olympiacos, Pereira secured both the league title and the Greek Cup in the 2014-2015 season before moving on to Fenerbahce. He joined Wolves in December 2024 but was dismissed three months ago when the club managed only two points from their first ten league matches.

Pereira began his managerial career at Sanjoanense in Portugal in 2004 and has since held positions in Germany, China, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia, making this his 15th managerial appointment.

Nottingham Forest’s recent struggles were evident, as they sacked Nuno just three games into the season in September due to a deteriorating relationship with Marinakis, despite having finished seventh and qualifying for Europe the previous season. Postecoglou was appointed as his successor but lasted only 39 days without a win in eight league games.

Dyche seemed to bring stability with seven wins from his first twelve matches, but a poor run of form led to concerns among players about his methods. Following the draw with Wolves, several players were called to meet with owner Marinakis to discuss their performance, particularly after a recent 3-1 defeat to Leeds.

Pereira’s first match in charge will be a Europa League knockout round tie against his former club Fenerbahce in Turkey on Thursday, followed by a Premier League clash against Liverpool at home on Sunday, February 22.
