Jordi Cruijff’s Controversial Recruitment Strategy at Ajax

omidbasir- Jordi Cruijff is currently in his first month as the technical director of Ajax, and he is already generating significant buzz. According to the sports editorial team at De Telegraaf, his decision to bring multiple Spaniards to Amsterdam poses a substantial risk.

This week, Cruijff appointed Oscar García as the new head coach of Jong Ajax, succeeding Willem Weijs. In addition to García, he has also introduced three Spanish staff members. Valentijn Driessen commented on this shift during the football podcast Kick-Off, stating, “This sends a strong signal within the organization by suddenly bringing in so many Spaniards. This is not for Ajax 1, but for Jong Ajax.”

Driessen further observed that the supervisory board appears to be the only entity willing to take action regarding this matter, remarking, “In the executive management and supervisory board, there seems to be no willingness to intervene. This is something to be cautious about,” he noted. Mike Verweij found Driessen’s concerns somewhat exaggerated but acknowledged, “He has always lived in Spain and made his mark at FC Barcelona. While he has played a few times for the Dutch national team, one must primarily view Cruijff as a Spanish football figure.”
