With John Heitinga’s departure from Ajax, discussions are swirling about who will take over the role. One name gaining traction is Mark van Bommel, a notable icon from rival club PSV.

Yordi Yamali, host of Voetbalpraat on ESPN, suggested, “People tend to look for familiar names who are currently without a club. Can you imagine the influx of PSV influence at Ajax with someone like Mark van Bommel?” Former PSV player Danny Koevermans also expressed, “I wouldn’t find that match surprising.”

This week, Van Bommel revealed that he turned down a position at Celtic to focus on supporting his son, Ruben van Bommel. “Yes, Ruben is the reason,” he stated during an interview on Ziggo Sport. “We discussed the opportunity, but I quickly felt the need to stay at home. His career is more important than mine. He is 21, and while he doesn’t need me holding his hand, it’s comforting to be with family. In this situation, I believed it was better not to step into a new role right now.”
