Valencia Declines to Report Incident Involving Eray ComertValencia Declines to Report Incident Involving Eray Comert

omidbasir- Valencia CF has decided not to pursue any legal action regarding the incident involving player Eray Comert, who was struck by a bottle after leaving the field post-match. The Swiss central defender sparked the altercation by using a corner flag from Ciutat de València to create a makeshift flag with his shirt. He exited the field accompanied by teammate Copete and a security staff member from the club.

As Comert approached the tunnel leading to the locker rooms, bottles began to rain down from the stands, with one narrowly missing the head of a private security staff member from Levante before striking Comert on the chin just before he disappeared into the tunnel.

Footage of the incident, captured by several fans, has circulated widely on social media; however, it occurred several minutes after the match had concluded and the officiating team had retreated to their quarters. Since this incident was not documented in the match report, the only viable course of action for the federative sanctioning body to investigate would be if Valencia were to submit a formal complaint along with video evidence. However, club sources indicate there is no intention to file any complaint or claim in this matter.

The club maintains that given their good institutional relationship and the context surrounding the events during and after the match, there is no reason to initiate any punitive measures against Levante on their own accord.

According to regulations, the Competition Committee could choose to investigate the incident independently due to its implications, although this cannot be predicted at this moment. Additionally, the report submitted by the Liga de Fútbol Profesional to the Competition Committee every Tuesday—prior to their Wednesday meetings—typically includes chants that incite violence, racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in sport. This report could also encompass the events following the match, notably the bottle-throwing incident. If it is recorded that objects were thrown and one struck a player, the Competition Committee may then assess the seriousness of the situation.

It is worth noting that from the Valencia side, coach Carlos Corberán expressed “apologies on behalf of Valencia” in a sentiment echoed by César Tárrega after the match. Furthermore, Eray Comert himself took to social media to clarify that he did not intend to “humiliate” Levante and understood how this could be perceived as disrespectful.
