Bellingham’s Injury Update and World Cup Prospects

As he collapsed to the ground while pursuing a loose ball, it became apparent that he had incurred significant damage to his left leg.

Real Madrid promptly conducted medical assessments, concluding that surgery would not be necessary. Initially, it was projected that Bellingham would be unavailable for approximately five weeks, with hopes that he would return in time for the fixture against local rivals Getafe on March 2.

However, recent reports from The Sun suggest that his rehabilitation period may extend significantly longer, with no risks being taken regarding his fitness. It is now anticipated that Bellingham could remain sidelined until early April.

This extended absence would prevent him from participating in England’s friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan scheduled for late March. These encounters will mark the final preparations for the Three Lions ahead of their World Cup campaign.

Additionally, Bellingham’s injury will impact Real Madrid’s pursuit of the La Liga title and could see him miss both legs of the Champions League knockout stage against José Mourinho’s Benfica. His return for the last-16 matches could also be jeopardized, particularly if the Blancos face Manchester City.

Since June 2025, Bellingham has only made one start for England, during their last match against Albania in November, following shoulder surgery last summer that delayed his current season’s start.

Concerns have been raised regarding his working relationship with England manager Thomas Tuchel, who has emphasized that selections for the World Cup will not be based on past reputations alone. Tuchel remarked on Bellingham’s recovery, stating, “The club is a bit more defensive on the outlook regarding the weeks of his recovery. Jude is pushing, and as we know him, he is determined and professional. He will try everything to be with us in March.”

Despite the uncertainty, it is widely expected that Bellingham will be considered for World Cup selection, given his transformative impact on the pitch. Former England striker Michael Owen expressed confidence in Bellingham’s ability, stating, “I would find a place for Jude Bellingham if he’s fit. He’s one of the world’s best players, not only England’s best players.”

England is scheduled to play two pre-tournament friendlies in Florida against New Zealand and Costa Rica, providing an opportunity for Bellingham to return to international competition.
