Philippe Coutinho’s Career Journey and Current Unrest at Vasco da Gama

This led to a loan to Qatari club Al-Duhail, followed by another temporary stint back in Brazil at Vasco da Gama in 2024. This revelation has reportedly surprised the club, leading management to attempt to persuade the midfielder to reconsider. However, Coutinho feels his dissatisfaction has become “irreversible.”

Initial discussions about a contract renewal were underway as Vasco aimed to extend his stay. However, an “accumulation of criticism” from fans and media has seemingly made his position at the club untenable. In a recent match, Coutinho faced boos from supporters, further complicating his situation.

Coutinho first caught attention in 2008 when Inter Milan signed him due to his promising talents. However, his time in Italy was challenging, and in January 2013, Liverpool acquired him. He quickly became a fan favorite at Anfield, forming impactful partnerships with players such as Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling, and played a crucial role in the team’s pursuit of the Premier League title during the 2013-14 season.

His performance earned him a spot in the PFA Team of the Year the following season, and he remained a vital figure under manager Jurgen Klopp. Coutinho’s impressive collaboration with stars like Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah ultimately led to his move to Barcelona in January 2018 for a reported £142 million (€162m/$192m).

Initially, his time at Camp Nou was promising, contributing to two La Liga titles and a Copa del Rey victory. However, he later fell out of favor and was loaned to Bayern Munich for the 2019-20 season, where he achieved a treble but struggled to establish himself as a key player under manager Hansi Flick.

Upon joining Aston Villa in 2022, he reunited with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard but continued to face challenges with consistency, which resulted in his moves to Al-Duhail and then Vasco.
