Kompany Reflects on Career and Future Aspirations at Kids’ Press Conference

One notable inquiry revolved around the toughest opponent Kompany has ever faced. While he acknowledged Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as exceptional talents, he expressed that it was the legendary Ronaldinho, formerly of Barcelona and Brazil, who made the most significant impact on him. “Ronaldinho impressed me the most. Of course, Messi and Ronaldo are probably the best players, but from what I saw in one game, it was Ronaldinho,” Kompany remarked.

In addition to serious queries, the conference included light-hearted topics. When asked about his favorite video game, Kompany revealed that he enjoys playing Fortnite. He also shared his thoughts on the funniest player in the Bayern squad, naming Konrad Laimer as the standout.

Kompany has a deep-rooted connection with Manchester City, having spent eleven years at the Etihad Stadium, starting just before the club’s acquisition by Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi Group. He highlighted the 2011-12 Premier League title as his favorite trophy, recalling the dramatic finish decided by Sergio Agüero’s last-minute goal. “The first title we won with Manchester City was my favorite. We had actually lost it on the final matchday until Kun Agüero scored at the last second, clinching the title for us. That moment stands out for me,” he noted.

When reflecting on the managers who have influenced him, Kompany stated, “The best coach I’ve had was, of course, Pep Guardiola. He opened up my understanding of football. While I don’t aim to replicate his methods, I’ve learned valuable lessons from every coach I’ve worked with, including Roberto Mancini and Huub Stevens.”

He emphasized that while Guardiola’s tactics are noteworthy, it is the winning mentality that leaves a lasting impression: “It’s about having the mentality to win everything, treating every match with the same importance, regardless of the opponent’s stature. That unwavering desire to compete is what matters.”
