omidbasir- Álvaro Odriozola has already surpassed his total number of matches and minutes played in the previous season during the 2025-26 campaign. Under the guidance of coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, he has participated in six of the ten matches directed, a notable improvement from just three appearances out of twenty last season. The player from San Sebastián feels physically fit again, which has led to strong performances, particularly against Osasuna and Barcelona.

As a reminder, Odriozola was on the verge of leaving Real Sociedad last summer due to limited club confidence, having only played 421 minutes across eight matches, primarily due to ongoing physical issues since his return in 2023. At one point, he lost his jersey number and trained with the transfer-listed players. However, he remained with the team and, after being called upon by coach Sergio for two Copa del Rey matches and one LaLiga game due to an injury to Aramburu, he has become a key player once again under Matarazzo, featuring in six of the ten games he has managed, resulting in a total of nine matches and 434 minutes played.

Recently, Odriozola visited the San Sebastián Racetrack with Real Sociedad to celebrate the Lunar New Year, themed around the horse. He drew parallels between himself and the horse, a connection he cherishes. “I see a lot of similarities between us, as racehorses are elite athletes just like us. They are meticulously cared for, with their feed and training closely monitored to perform at their best, much like ourselves. Personally, I feel that connection with horses, as they give their all, and I strive to do the same—it is part of my character.”

The number 20 for Real Sociedad now has two dreams to pursue: winning a title with the club and achieving success in the world of horses. “Currently, horses are a hobby for me, as my primary focus is on football, which is my true passion. I dedicate myself fully to the sport, but I also own several horses, and my dream is to win the Gold Cup at the San Sebastián Racetrack.”
