omidbasir- The Rheinische Post reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach is keen to negotiate a new loan agreement for Tottenham Hotspur defender Kota Takai. The 21-year-old arrived on loan from the North London club last month and has already made five appearances in the Bundesliga.

Takai has started and played the full 90 minutes in his last two league matches under head coach Eugen Polanski. Initially, various German media outlets indicated that no purchase option was included in Takai’s loan arrangement. Tottenham is eager to retain the €5 million-valued center-back, particularly after he missed several first-team opportunities earlier this fall due to a foot injury. The Premier League club has no intention of selling the player, having invested €5.8 million to acquire him last summer.

However, reports from the Rheinische Post suggest that Gladbach may indeed have a purchase option for the four-times-capped Japanese international. While Takai’s reported price remains in the high single-digit millions, it poses a financial challenge for the German club. A renewed loan deal could prove advantageous for all parties involved.

Takai’s performances in the Bundesliga have not been without difficulties, including a critical possession error during last weekend’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt, which may lead to his being benched in the forthcoming weeks. With Kevin Diks returning from a concussion-related injury, Takai could find himself out of the starting eleven, regardless of whether Polanski opts for a three or four-man defense in upcoming matches.

Nonetheless, Gladbach must address their already depleted central defensive roster this summer. Apart from Diks and Nico Elvedi, who is frequently linked with a move away from the club, Marvin Friedrich will not be retained after his contract expires at the end of the current season. Meanwhile, attack-minded midfielder Philipp Sander has been filling in defensively, with limited success.

Thus, a new loan for Takai is likely to materialize.
