Feyenoord s Pursuit of Carlos Aalbers A Missed OpportunityFeyenoord s Pursuit of Carlos Aalbers A Missed Opportunity

omidbasir- Feyenoord attempted to bring Carlos Aalbers to De Kuip. The Technical Director of NEC has been experiencing significant success in Nijmegen and has decided to continue his role there.

According to Martijn Krabbendam from Voetbal International, Feyenoord expressed interest in Aalbers for the position of Technical Director. Dennis te Kloese, who has been fulfilling dual roles at Feyenoord for several years, is expected to focus solely on his responsibilities as General Director moving forward. Although Aalbers was a potential candidate for this role, he will not be making the move to Rotterdam.

This development raises concerns regarding the current technical management of the club. Krabbendam highlights the precarious situation regarding Feyenoord’s contracted players: they currently have 43 players in total, which includes five goalkeepers, four right-backs, nine central defenders, two left-backs, eleven midfielders, eight wingers, and four forwards. Only three players have contracts expiring soon, with seven set to become free agents in the summer of 2027. The club faces extensive work in the coming weeks after what has already been a disappointing season. Key questions arise: What are the (financial) capabilities moving forward? What is the value of the current squad? And, crucially, who will be tasked with addressing these pressing issues?
