Fred Grim s Future at Ajax Beyond Interim RoleFred Grim s Future at Ajax Beyond Interim Role

omidbasir- Those who believe that Fred Grim’s tenure as interim coach at Ajax will conclude after this season are mistaken. While he is indeed serving as the interim coach for the Amsterdam club, he will remain actively involved in our capital.

Grim is confirmed to be engaged with Ajax through the 2026-2027 season in some capacity.

This does not imply that he will retain his position as head coach, as that is not the expectation. Prior to stepping in following the departures of John Heitinga and Marcel Keizer, he held the role of ‘Head of Coaching’ at the Johan Cruyff Arena. In this position, he signed a contract that extends to mid-2027, with the intent to act as a consultant for the entire coaching staff of the academy focusing on coaching, communication, and team development.

Grim is not one to shy away from making tough decisions. For instance, Willem Weijs, the coach of Jong Ajax, was dismissed without hesitation. “I had the opportunity to observe numerous matches even before my arrival. It’s not a matter of landing and then opening my eyes. I’ve had several months to analyze. But we all know in professional football: whether we like it or not, losing has consequences. All coaches worldwide are aware of that. At Jong Ajax, we’re no longer dealing with twelve-year-olds; this is the final step towards the first team.”
