omidbasir- Cunha, a prominent star for the Red Devils, has provided valuable insights into the club’s recent resurgence, notably acknowledging the contributions of former manager Ruben Amorim despite the team’s improved performance since his departure. Amorim, who came to the club with high expectations from Sporting CP, was dismissed in early January after a challenging period that resulted in only two victories in seven Premier League matches.

Since Michael Carrick took over as interim manager, Manchester United has displayed a remarkable transformation, embarking on an impressive five-match unbeaten streak that has revitalized their season. Under Carrick’s leadership, the team has recorded four consecutive victories, including significant wins against rivals Manchester City and league leaders Arsenal.

Cunha, who has excelled during this period, provided a memorable late winner against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. In an interview with DAZN, the Brazilian forward expressed his gratitude towards Amorim: “I’ve always been very grateful for everything Ruben did. It’s easy to view the past solely through the lens of problems when circumstances change, but that is far from the truth; he was an incredible individual.”

Despite the managerial transition, Cunha’s relationship with Amorim appears to remain strong, as he emphasized the personal qualities of Amorim’s leadership and his influence in shaping the current squad. This reflection comes after Amorim’s 14-month tenure, which was characterized by notable inconsistency and United’s statistically poorest season in over fifty years.

While many viewed Amorim’s departure as a necessary measure to halt the team’s decline, Cunha’s remarks suggest that the players maintained a supportive environment towards the former manager. He firmly believes that the talent brought in by Amorim is only now beginning to shine under Carrick’s guidance. “Many new players came because of him, so I think he also plays a big part in the success we are experiencing now,” Cunha stated, resisting the narrative that solely blames the previous regime for the struggles.

Amorim faced significant pressure to adjust his tactical approach; however, Cunha dismissed the notion that his inflexibility was the root cause of the issues, arguing that the transition under Carrick is not as drastic as perceived. “The pressure for that tactic to succeed was so intense that we lost sight of how simple the overall picture was and focused too much on the negatives,” he remarked. “To be honest, I believe the numerology of football can be misleading. We attack in various ways and often defend using the formation everyone attributes to Ruben.”

The challenge ahead for United lies in maintaining this momentum as they consider a permanent managerial appointment. Currently, the players seem eager to reconcile the lessons learned under Amorim with Carrick’s tactical adjustments, presenting themselves as a more unified team than at any point earlier in the season.

The victory over Arsenal illustrated that the Red Devils are no longer the easily defeated side they once were. Carrick’s squad is currently positioned fourth in the league, boasting 45 points from 26 matches. United aims to extend their unbeaten Premier League run as they prepare to face Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday.
