omidbasir- Cardiff City experienced relegation from the Championship to League One last season.

The Football Association (FA) has officially charged Cardiff City following allegations that the club’s supporters directed homophobic chants at Chelsea during a recent match. This incident occurred on 16 December when Premier League team Chelsea triumphed over League One leaders Cardiff with a score of 3-1 in the EFL Cup quarter-final held at Cardiff City Stadium.

The FA stated: “The club allegedly failed to ensure that its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters) do not use words or behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting manner, including references—whether explicit or implied—to sexual orientation around the second minute of the match.”

Moreover, the FA has given Cardiff City until Tuesday, 24 February, to respond to the charge.

In reaction to the FA’s charge, Cardiff City issued a statement: “Cardiff City Football Club has acknowledged the FA charge concerning homophobic chanting by a minority of individuals during our Carabao Cup match against Chelsea.

“As an inclusive club that places itself at the core of our community, we strongly condemn the language used by these identified individuals and fully support South Wales Police in their commitment to holding those responsible accountable.

“The misconduct of the perpetrators was promptly identified during the match, leading to immediate internal communication that resulted in police being deployed to the relevant section.

“The club is dedicated to fostering inclusivity and protecting all supporters attending our events. Comprehensive measures were established before, during, and after this fixture, which have been detailed in our response to the Football Association.

“No form of discrimination is tolerated at our club, nor should it ever be tolerated in society. Supporters are reminded that such behavior is criminal and will be treated as such whenever identified.”
