When Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax in August 2022 for £82 million ($110.7 million), expectations were extremely high. However, the excitement faded quickly. Over two seasons, he scored only 12 goals and provided five assists in 96 appearances. He struggled to justify his price tag and faced ongoing criticism. This period led to both professional and personal difficulties. In the second half of the 2024–25 season, Antony was loaned to Real Betis. His performances in Spain were encouraging, and he returned to Manchester United in the summer. However, he soon learned that he was not part of Ruben Amorim’s plans. Antony was placed in Amorim’s “bomb squad,” along with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho. This difficult chapter ended on the final day of the transfer window when Real Betis signed him permanently. This season, the 25-year-old has played 10 matches in all competitions. He has scored six goals and delivered two assists, becoming one of the standout performers at the club. Antony recently received the Silver Dove award from the Culture of Peace School in Seville. The award was presented by former Sevilla sporting director Monchi. After receiving the honor, Antony said: “Dream big. I have faced many challenges, and now I am happy. I went through a long journey, and if I could give one piece of advice to children, it would be to always dream big. I am living proof that it is possible. I am proud of the man and father I have become.” In an interview with El Desmarque, Antony spoke about the difficult moments he experienced in England: “Those were very tough months. I spent more than 40 days in a hotel and trained separately. I felt disrespected. I don’t want to create controversy, that’s just life. I am grateful for the club, because there were also happy moments and two titles. My family arrived in Seville before the deal was finalized, and I had already rented a house.” He added that only his family understands how difficult that period was. Despite fears that things might not improve, he continued to believe that a better moment would arrive. The support from the Betis fans has made a strong impression on him. With his improved form under Manuel Pellegrini, Antony now hopes to return to the Brazilian national team. He previously played in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. As the 2026 World Cup approaches, he hopes to earn a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. “Playing in a World Cup is a dream. I have experienced it once, and I want to experience it again. I will continue to work hard and hope to be selected,” Antony said. Post navigation Dramatic Draw in North London as United Salvages Point Against Spurs Garnacho Shines as Chelsea Defeats Wolves 3-0
