Sevilla Secures Hard Fought Victory Against OsasunaSevilla Secures Hard Fought Victory Against Osasuna

Sevilla FC returned to winning ways at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium after suffering three consecutive defeats in LaLiga. The Andalusian side earned a vital 1–0 victory over Osasuna, in a tense and physically demanding match that tested their resilience.

Despite Osasuna’s record as the weakest away team — with only one goal and one point on the road — they pushed Sevilla to their limits, forcing the hosts to battle hard for three points.

Manager Matías Almeyda opted for a three-man defense, with Carmona stepping in for the injured Azpilicueta. Using a 3-4-1-2 formation, Sevilla reduced the defensive errors that had cost them in recent games. However, moments of instability, particularly involving Nianzou, still appeared. Almeyda’s side emphasized vertical play, looking to connect with Akor Adams and attack from the flanks, while maintaining defensive discipline.

“When you have a short blanket, if you cover the top, your feet get exposed, and if you cover the bottom, you expose the top,” Almeyda explained post-match. “We were solid defensively but lacked attacking depth. We corrected that at halftime and played more offensively.”

In the second half, Almeyda switched to a four-man defense, which gave Sevilla more control and attacking intensity.

Vargas Converts Penalty to Secure the Win

The breakthrough came after Moi Gómez fouled Juanlu inside the box, resulting in Sevilla’s second penalty of the season. Vargas converted confidently from the spot, giving the hosts a crucial lead.

Moments later, Osasuna nearly equalized through Raúl García, but goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos produced a superb save — one of several key interventions that underlined his consistency as one of Sevilla’s top performers.

Akor and Peque Impress in Attack

Akor Adams was a constant threat throughout the match, even having a second goal disallowed for offside — his 16th of the campaign, the highest in the league. Meanwhile, Peque orchestrated Sevilla’s attacks with maturity and vision. The Catalan midfielder received a warm ovation from the Nervión crowd when substituted, and Almeyda praised his intelligence and work ethic.

A Crucial Three Points Before the Break

Osasuna pressed late in search of an equalizer, but Sevilla held firm to secure their fifth league victory and third clean sheet of the season. With 16 points from a possible 36, the win restores confidence heading into the international break, giving Almeyda and his squad renewed belief after a difficult spell.
