Ajax Suffers Defeat in First Match After Heitinga s DepartureAjax Suffers Defeat in First Match After Heitinga s Departure

Ajax’s first match after the departure of John Heitinga ended in a 2-1 loss to FC Utrecht. Despite the defeat, analyst Kenneth Perez identified several positive signs under interim coach Fred Grim.

Speaking on ESPN, Perez noted that Ajax showed improvement in the second half. He said, “By Ajax’s usual standards, it was actually a fairly strong second half. There was a clear strategy in both their attacking and defensive play. While they did not create many major chances—aside from Mika Godts’ impressive goal—they also limited Utrecht’s opportunities and controlled the match for long stretches.”

Perez emphasized that although the result was disappointing, there were meaningful tactical steps forward in the team’s approach.
