Etta Eyong’s meteoric rise in La Liga has transformed him into one of Europe’s most sought-after young forwards. Since joining Levante from Villarreal for €3 million last summer, the 21-year-old has scored six league goals, quickly establishing himself as the centerpiece of Levante’s attack.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, the Cameroonian forward revealed his admiration for Chelsea, calling a future move to the Premier League club “a lifelong dream” inspired by African icons Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o.

“Growing up, Chelsea was the English team I watched the most because of Drogba, and Eto’o was there for a year as well,” Eyong said. “Chelsea have always believed in African players. There are many great clubs in England, but joining Chelsea would be a dream for me.”

While Chelsea are reportedly monitoring Eyong, their immediate transfer focus remains on defensive reinforcements, making any potential move unlikely before the summer.

Levante Standing Firm Amid Transfer Interest

Eyong’s performances have sparked widespread speculation, but Levante CEO Jose Danvila insists the club has no plans to sell during the winter window.

Barcelona and Real Madrid haven’t contacted us about Eyong,” Danvila told Radio Marca. “We did receive a €30 million offer from CSKA Moscow, which we declined. The player is not for sale this winter.”

FIFA regulations also prevent Eyong from playing for a third club this season, having already featured for both Villarreal and Levante. The Valencian side is reportedly preparing to offer him an improved contract to reflect his growing importance to the team.

Rising Star Inspired by Legends

Eyong has been open about the influences shaping his game, naming Eto’o and Robert Lewandowski as role models.

“Eto’o was the best,” he reflected. “I admired him at Barcelona, and Lewandowski’s consistency and movement are things I study closely. When we face Barça in February, I hope to get his shirt.”

Despite a 2017 photo of Eyong wearing a Barcelona jersey resurfacing online, the striker insists he remains open-minded about his future.

“I can’t choose between La Liga and the Premier League because I love both,” he said. “I’ve achieved my dream of playing in La Liga, but one day I want to test myself in the Premier League. For now, my focus is on Levante.”

Eyong also downplayed transfer rumors with a laugh:

“My friends call me about all the gossip, but I just tell them, ‘I don’t know anything—I’ve been on my PlayStation!’ I prefer gaming or reading to worrying about speculation.”

What Comes Next

Levante faces a challenge to keep hold of their breakout star beyond this season. Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and several Premier League clubs—including Manchester United and Arsenal—are all expected to revisit their scouting reports before the summer transfer window, potentially setting the stage for a €40 million-plus bidding war.

For now, however, Eyong remains focused on his rapid development in Spain and on helping Levante achieve a top-half finish.
