Eyong’s Rising Stardom: The Untouchable Forward of Levante

At just 22 years old, Eyong has established himself as one of the most coveted young forwards in Europe. His remarkable speed, strength, and precise finishing have turned him into a sensation in Spain’s top tier, where he has already scored six goals and provided three assists in 12 matches, positioning him among the league’s leading scorers, just behind stars like Kylian Mbappe, Julian Alvarez, and Robert Lewandowski.

Eyong’s impressive performances have sparked considerable interest from elite clubs. CSKA Moscow was the first to make a move, reportedly offering €30 million, which was promptly rejected by both Levante and the player. Sources indicate that Eyong had little desire to relocate to Russia, despite an enticing salary proposal.

Barcelona and Chelsea have now entered the fray, encouraged by his remarkable form since joining Levante this season. Madrid, Arsenal, and Manchester United are also monitoring his progress, making Eyong one of the most closely watched forwards in Europe this year.

However, Levante has made their position clear: Eyong is not for sale this season. Club owner Jose Danvila reaffirmed this stance, stating, “We receive offers for him every day. However, the player will not be sold. Our priority is remaining in the league, not cashing out.”

Eyong’s transfer situation is complicated by a series of contractual clauses from his 2024 move to Villarreal. He initially signed a three-year deal with Villarreal, earning approximately €520,000 per season. After facing challenges in securing playing time, he transferred to Levante in September 2025 on a four-year contract worth €1 million annually, accompanied by a €30 million release clause.

Villarreal ensured they would benefit from any future sale through a multi-tiered sell-on clause: for transfers under €7.5 million, Villarreal receives 80% of the fee; between €7.5 million and €15 million, profits are split evenly; and for anything above €15 million, Levante retains 80% of proceeds, while Villarreal takes 20%.

If Levante declines any offers exceeding €15 million, they must still compensate Villarreal for the profit they would have earned, a clause designed to guarantee Villarreal’s financial gain even from unsuccessful sales. They also maintain a right of first refusal, allowing them to match any future bids.

This intricate arrangement ensures that Villarreal remains financially invested in Eyong’s future, while Levante must balance sporting ambitions against contractual obligations.

Eyong has candidly discussed the challenges he has faced on his path to success. With six goals this season, he attributes his achievements to diligence and an unwavering mindset. “I came here to play regularly and to help keep Levante in La Liga. The key to my scoring streak this season is simply hard work,” Eyong remarked in a post-match interview.

Eyong’s ascendancy has been nothing short of meteoric. He began his professional career in Spain’s lower divisions with Cadiz B, making occasional first-team appearances before moving to Villarreal in August 2024.

He made his La Liga debut in April 2025 and scored his first goal in the top flight shortly thereafter, demonstrating the instinctive finishing that would come to characterize his play. Few anticipated his immediate impact when Levante signed him for €3 million, but Eyong quickly rose to prominence, netting six goals in the current season. His blend of athletic prowess and technical skill has drawn comparisons to legends like Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o, whom he idolized during his youth.

Despite the growing pressure for a transfer, Levante is resolute in their decision to retain Eyong, especially during the ongoing season. The club currently sits 19th in La Liga with just nine points from 12 matches, making their survival in the league a top priority. CEO Danvila emphasized that “it doesn’t make sense to sell your best player while fighting to stay in the top flight.”

Head coach Julian Calero echoes this sentiment, highlighting Eyong’s crucial role within the team’s structure. He has labeled Eyong as “a vital part of our offensive strategy and a player capable of changing the course of a match.” Calero is confident that if Eyong sustains his current form, Levante can shift their focus from survival to achieving a mid-table finish, transforming their campaign into a success story.
