Sky Germany and Bild report that VfL Wolfsburg is poised to part ways with head coach Paul Simonis after their recent 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen on Friday. In that match, Wolfsburg conceded two late goals, leading to a disappointing outcome that currently places them in 14th position in the league standings. The decision has been made to relieve the Dutch head coach of his duties, with Under-19 head coach Daniel Bauer set to take over on an interim basis as the club seeks a permanent replacement. Among the candidates being considered for the role are former Hamburg and Hull City manager Tim Walter, as well as ex-Union Berlin coach Urs Fischer. Simonis’s dismissal marks the third coaching change this season in the Bundesliga, following the departures of Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen and Gerardo Seoane at Borussia Mönchengladbach. In addition to Simonis, the club’s sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz is facing scrutiny due to controversial decision-making, alongside managing director of sport Peter Christensen. Both have come under fire for the significant financial investments made in recent seasons, which have yet to yield tangible success on the pitch.
