Morgan Rogers Signs Long Term Deal with Aston Villa Amidst Challenging SeasonMorgan Rogers Signs Long Term Deal with Aston Villa Amidst Challenging Season

After an impressive season with Aston Villa, during which he scored 14 goals and provided 16 assists across all competitions, Morgan Rogers has faced a challenging start to the 2025-26 campaign, managing only one goal and three assists so far. Nevertheless, the club has shown its confidence in the young talent by offering him a new long-term contract that will keep him at Villa Park until 2031.

The 23-year-old has accepted the terms of the deal, effectively ruling out the prospect of a transfer to other top English clubs, such as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Aston Villa’s official statement confirmed: “Aston Villa is delighted to announce that Morgan Rogers has signed a new contract with the club. The England international has agreed to a deal that will keep him at Villa until 2031. Rogers joined the club in February 2024 from Middlesbrough and has quickly become an integral part of Unai Emery’s squad, making his international debut for the Three Lions in November 2024. His outstanding performances last season earned him the PFA Young Player of the Season award.”

Earlier this year, Chelsea was reported to be considering a summer move for Rogers, who is a close friend of their star player, Cole Palmer, following his impressive displays throughout the 2024-25 season. There were concerns that Aston Villa might need to sell the forward to adhere to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). However, Chelsea did not formally approach the club regarding a transfer.

Tottenham Hotspur also identified Rogers as a potential target after losing Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, but they ultimately decided to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig instead.

In August, Rogers had suggested he could consider his future, stating in an interview with The Times, “I’m happy here [Aston Villa]. I love football. I love nothing more than just coming out on the pitch and playing football and that’s what I’m doing. I don’t think about anything else. I can’t predict the next 12 months or anything in the future. It’s just about playing football, enjoying my football and showing everyone what I can do.”

Despite a slow start to the season, Rogers has consistently been included in Thomas Tuchel’s England squads during recent international breaks and has received commendations from the German manager. Following England’s 3-0 victory over Wales last month, Tuchel remarked, “Morgan was excellent, like the whole team; he’s very humble and physical. He has the ability to score and assist. He had a fantastic season (in 2024-25) and was rightfully voted as the young player of the season in the Premier League. Morgan is one piece of the puzzle, but it is a team effort. Morgan is what he is. He is a number 10 and he is competing for his place.”

Rogers will aim to maintain his form and secure a spot in Tuchel’s final World Cup squad, which is set to travel to North America next summer.
