Upcoming Draw for Copa del Rey Second Round Set to ExciteUpcoming Draw for Copa del Rey Second Round Set to Excite

Tomorrow, the draw for the second round of the Copa del Rey will take place in Madrid at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas, starting at 13:00 hours. This draw includes 15 teams from the Primera División, excluding Real Oviedo, which has been eliminated, along with the four clubs competing in the Supercopa de España: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, and Athletic Club de Bilbao. Additionally, 17 teams from Segunda División and 24 teams from Primera, Segunda, and Tercera RFEF are still in contention.

A total of 56 teams from five different categories are waiting to learn their opponents in the second round of the Copa del Rey. This round is set to be held between December 2 and 4. As in the previous round, the draw will adhere to geographical proximity and will consist of single-elimination matches, hosted at the venue of the lower-placed team. Notably, there will be no VAR in this round.

The regional criteria will determine the pairings for the matches, dividing Spain into two groups: one for the northern half and another for the southern half. It is important to note that eight clubs from Segunda División will compete against each other, with the order of ball extraction deciding the home and away teams. This will result in four matches, three from Group 1 and one from Group 2.

The first round produced several surprises, including the elimination of one Primera team (Real Oviedo) and four from Segunda (Valladolid, Córdoba, Las Palmas, and Castellón), highlighting the exciting nature of single-match eliminations. From the 56 teams participating in this second round, 28 will advance to the round of 16, joining the four clubs competing in the Supercopa de España for the next draw.
