Wout Weghorst had initially scored, giving Ajax a 1-0 lead. However, after reviewing the VAR footage, referee Danny Makkelie awarded a free kick to the home team instead. René van der Gijp commented on the situation in the program ‘Vandaag Inside’: “If a referee is standing just two meters away, how can you call him to the VAR screen?” Johan Derksen added, “That’s something a VAR should avoid doing. He was indeed right there on the scene.”
