Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has made a notable impact since his transfer from RB Leipzig, scoring two goals in 12 appearances. However, he will be absent from Slovenia’s pivotal World Cup qualifiers due to a knee injury sustained during the recent 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. In the match, Sesko limped off the field just 30 minutes in after a tackle from Micky van de Ven left him with discomfort in his knee. Although he was seen leaving the stadium without crutches, his mobility appeared limited, raising concerns about the severity of the injury. Head coach Ruben Amorim expressed caution regarding the injury, stating that knee issues can be unpredictable. He noted that the extent of Sesko’s injury could affect potential transfer plans in January. This injury has sparked worries about a possible lengthy absence, coinciding with the departures of teammates Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, as well as defender Noussair Mazraoui, for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. While further assessments will determine the full impact of the injury, Manchester United’s staff are reportedly optimistic that Sesko will not face an extended recovery period. Consequently, he is set to miss Slovenia’s crucial matches against Kosovo and Sweden, both of which are vital for their hopes of securing a World Cup play-off berth. On another note, Lisandro Martinez is making strides toward recovery and has returned to training with the squad following major knee surgery in February. Although Amorim has not yet included him in the matchday squad, he is allowing Martinez to train with his international teammates, as this does not involve extensive travel. A member of United’s performance team will accompany Martinez during his time away.
