Danilho Doekhi s Future at Union Berlin A Potential Departure by 2026Danilho Doekhi s Future at Union Berlin A Potential Departure by 2026

Just two days after Union Berlin defender Danilho Doekhi made headlines with a brace against Bayern Munich, Sky Sports reports his intention to leave the club by the summer of 2026.

Although Doekhi is under contract until that time, a free transfer seems unlikely as Union Berlin has not ruled out a potential move in January.

Currently, Doekhi’s market value stands at approximately 13 million euros. With six goals already this season, he is in high demand and is poised to leverage his recent performances at both ends of the pitch.

Doekhi is recognized as one of the most prolific central defenders in Europe, with inquiries coming in from Bundesliga rivals, teams in England’s Premier League, Italy’s Serie A, Spain’s La Liga, the Netherlands, and Türkiye.

Union Berlin currently sits 11th in the Bundesliga with 12 points, five points clear of St. Pauli who occupy the 16th spot. Doekhi’s departure would leave a significant gap in the team’s defense.

In a remarkable display on Saturday, Doekhi proved to be a thorn in Bayern Munich’s side as Union Berlin became the first team this season to halt Bayern’s winning streak. His two goals not only added to a solid finish against Bielefeld in the DFB Pokal but also complemented his goals in a 3-1 victory over Gladbach.

Had it not been for a last-minute header from Harry Kane, Union Berlin would have celebrated a well-deserved victory against the reigning Bundesliga champions. While Doekhi’s double has secured a comfortable position for Union Berlin in mid-table, his potential exit could signal a shift in the team’s fortunes.

Union Berlin must act swiftly to secure a replacement should Doekhi depart in the January transfer window.
