RB Salzburg Considers Andreas Schicker as Sporting Director ReplacementRB Salzburg Considers Andreas Schicker as Sporting Director Replacement

Following the departure of sporting director Rouven Schröder to Borussia Mönchengladbach, RB Salzburg is in search of a suitable replacement. The managing director of Salzburg, Stephan Reiter, has confirmed that Andreas Schicker, the sporting director at Hoffenheim, is among the candidates being considered.

Speculation regarding Schicker’s potential return to Austria has not gone unnoticed; sources in German football have suggested that this move is increasingly likely. The prevailing sentiment is that it might only be a matter of time before he makes the transition back to Salzburg.

Schicker, aged 39, may be contemplating his future at Hoffenheim, especially given the ongoing administrative turmoil at the club. The instability, compounded by the unpredictable leadership of club patron Dietmar Hopp, could prompt Schicker to seek new opportunities elsewhere. Reports from reliable outlets such as Kicker indicate that he has already had discussions about a potential role at Salzburg with RB’s Head of Global Soccer, Jürgen Klopp.

In a recent civil trial, Schicker testified in favor of certain Hoffenheim administrators who sought to bar Hopp’s controversial associate, Roger Wittmann, from the Pre-Zero Arena. With Hopp firmly supporting Wittmann, Schicker finds himself with ample justification to consider leaving.

Reiter addressed the media over the weekend, stating, “There are several candidates, and Mr. Schicker is of course one of them. There is a lot to be said for Andreas. He has done an excellent job in Austria, leading Sturm to a championship title, and he possesses considerable experience working with young talent. His contributions have also helped stabilize Hoffenheim.”
