Carragher Questions Salah s Role in Liverpool s LineupCarragher Questions Salah s Role in Liverpool s Lineup

Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender, has expressed doubts about Mohamed Salah’s role in the defending champions’ lineup, stating that the time for the Egyptian forward to start every match “must stop.”

Despite a remarkable performance last season that helped Liverpool secure the Premier League title and a new contract during the summer, Salah has faced challenges this season, managing only four league goals thus far.

Wayne Rooney, a former Manchester United forward, echoed Carragher’s concerns, noting that Salah may not be contributing adequately to the team. This has left right-back Conor Bradley vulnerable, especially highlighted during their 3-0 loss to Manchester City.

“Every player needs to contribute, and this season, teams have been targeting Liverpool on the right side,” Rooney commented on The Overlap. “Salah doesn’t track back, which is a significant issue for Liverpool, especially since Bradley isn’t receiving the necessary support.”

Carragher further scrutinized Salah, who was recently regarded as Liverpool’s star player, questioning his starting position under manager Arne Slot. “If you’re not scoring goals at one end while leaving your team exposed at the other, the tactical decision to keep Mo Salah solely up front becomes ineffective,” Carragher stated.

“He needs to either contribute defensively or we need to consider alternative options. That’s why I suggested a few weeks ago that the era of Mo Salah starting every game, especially away from home, should come to an end.”
