Sevilla FC has once again recognized the invaluable role of journalism by hosting the sixteenth edition of the Blázquez Awards and the thirteenth edition of the Ruesga Bono Awards. The event took place at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, where both President José María del Nido Carrasco and first-team coach Matías Almeyda engaged with various media representatives.

Matías Almeyda was the first to speak to Radio Marca Sevilla. The Argentine coach expressed his support for initiatives that foster collaboration within the football community. He stated, “We all participate in football. The day we understand that we all benefit from this sport, each from our own position, there should be a stronger connection, while obviously respecting different opinions and preferences. I truly believe in that.”

Sevilla enters a break in the season after breaking a three-match losing streak with a victory against Osasuna. Almeyda commented on the significance of victories in a competitive league like La Liga, stating, “Victories always bring happiness, especially given that our recent performance hasn’t mirrored the club’s history. My experience at River teaches me that it’s challenging to emerge from tough situations, and it requires gradual progress. While I dislike losing, I remain calm as long as we continue to earn points.”

Reflecting on the first third of the season, Almeyda acknowledged his high standards, saying, “It’s difficult to feel satisfied unless you are a champion. Other aspects must be addressed, and there are positions we aim to achieve for the club’s benefit, keeping an eye on the future. While I can acknowledge satisfaction in our performance against Barcelona and our current standings, it’s important to remain realistic.”

He anticipated the challenges of the league, explaining, “In this championship, the gap between teams fighting for relegation and those competing for European spots can be as slim as four points. The Spanish football landscape has changed significantly, with any team capable of defeating another, making the competition even more intense.”

Almeyda emphasized authenticity in his communication with fans, stating, “I never sell what I don’t genuinely believe, as it’s counterproductive. Our supporters deserve transparency about players’ conditions and press conferences. We’re not here to complain or make empty promises. While we’ve earned points, we’ve also lost many that were nearly secured, and we need to deepen our performance.”

Regarding the transfer market, he remarked, “No, we must think carefully as there is still a long way to go, and in football, nothing is guaranteed for the long term. I must reach Christmas first! (Laughs)”

On the upcoming schedule and break, Almeyda expressed, “Like everyone else, it’s tough. We have a classic match coming up and exciting times ahead for preparation. However, I believe that these breaks do not favor us; I don’t appreciate them. Football should continue, and I urge adjustments to the schedule.”

Concerning player injuries, he stated, “We hope to have everyone available for the derby. They are undergoing rapid rehabilitation, but we must exercise caution to prevent prolonged absences. We are in the process of building our team.”
