Bailey Peacock-Farrell, the on-loan goalkeeper from Blackpool, has accumulated 52 caps for the Northern Ireland national team.

As the FIFA World Cup qualifier approaches, Northern Ireland is set to face Slovakia at the venue in Košice on Friday, November 14, with kickoff scheduled for 19:45 GMT. The match will be broadcast live on BBC Two Northern Ireland, BBC Three, and BBC iPlayer, alongside audio commentary on BBC Sports Extra and BBC Radio Ulster, along with live text commentary and in-play clips available via the BBC Sport website and app.

Peacock-Farrell believes that the current squad under Michael O’Neill’s management represents the strongest iteration yet. As they prepare for an important match against Slovakia, Northern Ireland currently occupies third place in Group A, trailing Germany and Slovakia by three points. Their next game will be against Luxembourg at Windsor Park on Monday at 19:45 GMT.

A repeat of the home victory over Slovakia from October would significantly enhance their chances of securing at least second place in the group, thus qualifying for a playoff spot.

“It’s incredibly exciting. The opportunity before us is immense. I genuinely believe we are the strongest we’ve ever been,” remarked the 29-year-old goalkeeper. “Reflecting on previous tournaments, particularly after Euro 2016, we felt we were unluckily edged out in the playoffs. But observing the current team, there’s an exhilarating mix of energy, enthusiasm, and fearlessness.

“The level of play everyone is exhibiting is impressive, and I think several players have the potential to elevate their performance even further. I too have more to offer. There’s potential for growth within the squad, and these upcoming games, along with future tournaments, will undoubtedly help us progress.”

Peacock-Farrell returned to the starting lineup for the World Cup qualifiers due to a shoulder injury that sidelined Pierce Charles for the last four matches. With Conor Hazard and Luke Southwood also vying for the number one position, competition is intense, and Peacock-Farrell understands that he must demonstrate his value to retain his place.

“I have the current opportunity, and Pierce seized his chance when I was injured, which was well-deserved. When Pierce returns, we will have a strong group including myself, Pierce, Conor, and Luke for Michael to choose from. It’s about focusing on what we can control—our performances at the club level and in the Northern Ireland jersey,” he added.

Northern Ireland’s 2-0 victory against Slovakia at Windsor Park is often hailed as one of the best performances during Michael O’Neill’s tenure. However, Peacock-Farrell acknowledges the challenge ahead, anticipating a busier night in Košice.

“Slovakia will have some key players returning, and we are missing a few ourselves, but they will surely remember the impact we had when we defeated them, especially after their morale boost from beating Germany. We were exceptional against Slovakia and felt unfortunate against Germany. Our form is good, and we’re playing quite well.

“International away games present their own difficulties, yet we are not daunted. We respect their strengths, as we do with every opponent. Looking back at my journey with Northern Ireland, I see a very promising team filled with belief, enthusiasm, and overall talent. It’s truly rewarding to be part of this squad.”
