Celta has had a decent performance in the first third of the season, currently positioned well in the Europa League and still in contention in the Copa del Rey. However, they find themselves only three points above the relegation zone in La Liga, primarily due to their poor home form.

Balaídos, once a fortress for the team, has lost its intimidating reputation. Celta last secured a home victory in the league on May 10, when they defeated Sevilla 3-2 during the 35th round of the previous season.

In the current league campaign, they have suffered two losses against Getafe and Barcelona, alongside five draws against Betis, Villarreal, Girona, Atlético, and Real Sociedad. This results in a dismal five points from a possible twenty-one, making them the third-worst home team in the league, surpassing only Levante and Oviedo.

Before the Christmas break, Celta will play only two more home league matches against Espanyol and Athletic, aiming to achieve their first win in the competition. Fortunately, they have garnered eight points from their away matches, ranking as the seventh-best away team, tied with Betis and Levante.

In contrast to their domestic struggles, under the management of Claudio Giráldez, Celta has had a perfect record at home in the Europa League, winning both matches against PAOK of Thessaloniki and Nice.
