Wrexham AFC has achieved a remarkable feat, securing three consecutive promotions that lifted the club from the National League to the Championship. Aspiring to reach the Premier League, the club has made significant financial investments in pursuit of this ambitious goal.

This season has not been without its challenges, as the second tier of English football has proven to be more demanding than lower divisions. However, under the guidance of manager Phil Parkinson, Wrexham remains optimistic and is still in contention for a top-six finish.

Historically, the club has faced playoff disappointments, but Wrexham is prepared to embrace that journey once again. Having successfully navigated every obstacle thus far, the team maintains confidence in their ability to compete at the highest level once they secure their place among the elite.

Wrexham is actively preparing for a future in the Premier League, with both on-field and off-field projects in development. Williamson shared insights with The Leader about the club’s ambitions: “During pre-season, I expressed my desire for us to be competitive, aiming for a position around the play-offs. The league is tightly contested, and every point counts.

“If we can maintain our position in the table, we believe we can make a strong push for a play-off spot. Although our historical playoff performance has not been stellar, I feel confident in this team’s potential.

“Our goal is to demonstrate that we can stand toe-to-toe with any club in the Championship, and so far, we have proven that we are capable. In fact, we could have accumulated several additional points had we not relinquished leads in some matches, including our opener against Southampton where we conceded late goals.

“While I believe we could be higher in the standings, the key takeaway is that we can compete effectively against any opponent in this league. My focus now is on how we can build both on and off the pitch to prepare for our eventual arrival in the Premier League, which remains our primary objective. Everyone is clear on that vision.”

Williamson elaborated on Wrexham’s approach to challenges: “It will be intriguing to see how this season unfolds, but we must be prepared, whether that happens this season, next season, or beyond.

“We need to be ready for the implications of reaching the Premier League, as the transition from League One to the Championship was significant, but the leap from the Championship to the Premier League is even greater in all respects.

“It is crucial that we position ourselves optimally so that when the time comes, like when we made the transition to the Championship, we are ready to build on our existing foundations. That is our current aim as we look ahead to the Premier League.”

As the 2025-26 season approaches its third international break, Wrexham sits in 13th place in the Championship table, having garnered 21 points from 15 matches. The team is just four points shy of the playoff spots in a highly competitive division.

Despite the accolades received during Parkinson’s tenure, some questions regarding his strategies have emerged this season. He will seek to quell any doubts when the Red Dragons resume play on November 22 against Ipswich.
